Dingy Skipper Butterfly

The Dingy Skipper Butterfly is a rare, moth like butterfly found at Ashton’s Flash, Neumann’s Flash and Carey Park, where industrial remnants (salt and lime) create the ideal habitat.

They are a small and fast flying butterfly that is easily spooked and their camouflage can make them difficult to spot.  Look for them in May, and sometimes a second brood in August.  They can often be seen basking on bare ground in sunny spots near bird’s foot trefoil, their caterpillar food plant.

Northwich Woodlands is an important stronghold for the butterfly in Cheshire.
