The Friends of Anderton and Marbury (FoAM) is an independent group of local volunteers, with no paid staff, who support, influence and play an active role in the future of Northwich Woodlands. It works in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council, which has responsibility for maintaining infrastructure and day-to-day management of the Woodlands.
FoAM is managed by a Committee of Trustees, appointed by Members at each AGM. It is governed by a Constitution and operates within policies approved by Trustees. The current Committee membership can be found in the Minutes of the most recent AGM in the Reports and Policies section of the website.
The group is a Registered Charity (number 11785450). Its charitable objects are ‘the preservation, protection and improvement of Northwich Woodlands for the public benefit as a recreational amenity for exercise and recreation, and to educate the public regarding the natural, historical and cultural value of the area’.
FoAM achieves its charitable objects by:
- organising walks, talks and events
- developing projects for conservation, improving bio-diversity and improving amenities in the Woodlands
- undertaking research
All FoAM’s events and activities are open to everyone and not restricted to members. Events are free and, whilst donations are welcome, no pressure is put on participants to donate.
Membership fees are in effect donations and are kept low to minimise barriers to joining. They play a valuable role in supporting the group by covering running costs and helping support its activities. Funds are also raised through other donations, sales and external grants.
