Saturday 8th August 2026 was a very special day for Friends of Anderton and Marbury when the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Lynn Pegler DL, visited Marbury to present FoAM with a High Sheriff Award for Outstanding Community Service,

Chair of FoAM, Alan Redley, welcomed the High Sheriff to Marbury Country Park. He also welcomed Trustees, other volunteers, Marbury Ward Councillor Lynn Gibbon, Mersey Forest Director Paul Nolan and Countryside Officer Mel Bradley, all of whom help the group in so many ways.

Cheshire High Sheriff Lynn Pegler said:
“Friends of Anderton and Marbury are an exceptional voluntary group, who truly deserve a High Sheriff award for outstanding community service.
For more than a quarter of a century, its members have been caring for Northwich Woodlands, helping ensure everyone has access to a well-maintained network of pathways and countryside around Marbury Country Park, Anderton woods and the local flashes.
They’ve initiated dozens of exciting projects and developments to improve public engagement and enjoyment, from photo competitions and guided walks to installing special viewing platforms, play areas, bird guides and local history panels.
Leaders bring an impressive range of skills, coupled with dedication and commitment, ensuring this is an incredibly effective and well-managed group, delivering a fantastic public service.
A massive thank you and many congratulations!”

The High Sheriff took the opportunity to view some of the projects which had been initiated by Friends of Anderton and Marbury and formally opened the Photographic Exhibition to the public.
